Last of the summer wine

The early morning and late night chills are fair warning that we are heading away from summer, yet there is still much to enjoy in terms of food and wine in the Cape.

The Jonkershuis at Groot Constantia is just one venue that continues to please with a menu offering Cape cuisine at its best.  From delicious shellfish and fillet steak, to the Cape sampler, a trio of Cape dishes such as Bobotie, Chicken  and Lamb curry. Decadent desserts that tempt the most disciplined  round off a delicious meal. The winelist is not restricted to wines produced on the property and this adds to the culinary experience.  The Jonkershuis takes its name from days of old, when it was customary for the eldest son or young man (Jonker) to move into his own house on the family farm.  This is a tradition synonomous with Cape Dutch architecture and history.

Picnic’s are also on offer from Simon’s restaurant and can be enjoyed under the many oak trees on the lawns at Groot Constantia.  Booking is essential and the menu includes favourites such as Cape salad, apricot chicken salad, country ham, spinach & feta quiche and chocolate brownies.
