After successfully laying the core foundation to the Bon Cap name it was decided to raise the foundational walls of the renowned name to that of an acclaimed winery by introducing Marinus Potgieter as the new Bon Cap Winemaker.
Marinus represents a new chapter to the history of the farm; one that aims to build a story well-known to the lips of the international wine society. Having concluded three years of dedicated craftsmanship at De Heuvel Estate, previously Bianco Fine Wines, Marinus set pace and challenged himself to uplift the image of the Bon Cap wines to that of superior quality by employing his passionate zest for life and love for winemaking.
Marinus’ flirtation with wine started as a means of avoidance in having to clean the Eerste Rivier of his home town Stellenbosch as alternative to attending a winemaking module presented by the Paul Roos Gymnasium High School. The match was struck and the fire ablaze. This tantalizing experience lead to his life alternating decision to study a Bachelor of Science degree in Oenology and Viticulture at the University of Stellenbosch.
After completing his studies he elected against making the same decision as numerous classmates by remaining in South Africa. If he was to be making South African Wines he would build experience on the conditions and techniques home grown. It is this proudly South African philosophy that completes the puzzle to this Proudly South African Winery.
Still recognized as a junior in his trade, Marinus does not stand back in talent for a second. He has already managed to walk away with no less than four Young Wine Show trophies, including the CJ Petrow Trophy for the 2006 Champion Pinotage.
Marinus is already recognized as forming part of the Bon Cap team. With his dedication to the art of winemaking, and Roelf du Preez’s viticultural talent, produce delivered can be regarded as nothing less than superior.
