Wine in the deep south…

Cloud bank over the Constantia Wine Valley as seen from Ou Kaapse Weg.

Internet is fast and convenient, but it does take the fun out of exploration.   We pay bills, order goods and even communicate without having to leave our homes. With this insight I decided to drive further south this morning, taking Ou Kaapse Weg to make my way to Longbeach Mall.  My mission:  pay a Telkom account.

En route I stopped on top of the mountain pass to take this photo.  I was not alone since half of Cape Town decided to do the same!  I bumped into two people I know and tried to persuade them to follow me to Cape Point Vineyards!

Once the photo shoot was done and telephone account was paid (yes, I could EFT, but it’s complicated, okay) I rewarded myself with a trip to CPV.  The tranquility of the pristine environ was inviting as was the wine waiting in the tasting venue.  The newly released Splattered Toad 2011 Sauvignon Blanc is a step up on the 2010.  Upfront nose with guava and tropical fruit leading, followed by zesty limes and peaches on the palate makes this a delightful thirst quencher.  Balanced fruit and acidity with good mouthfeel and at R44.00 per bottle (ex cellar door) this wine will give many Sauvignon Blancs a run for their money.

I tasted the remaining wines available before heading back into the clouds of life and computing.  Sure was good to be spontaneous.
