Winter is a great time
to explore places and one of those tucked
away gems off our West coast is Paternoster.
A great weekend retreat – not too
far from the city, but far enough.
Our journey took us out of Cape
Town, up the R27, past the West Coast
National Park towards Saldanha Bay.
We arrived on a perfect Friday afternoon
with sunny skies and a beautiful beach
stretched out in front of us.
Blue Dolphin B & B
We
booked into the Blue Dolphin Guesthouse
and once our
bags were dropped we decided to
enjoy a sundowner on the deck. No
sooner had we settled
into our chairs and the weather
changed, blue skies giving way to
dark rolling
clouds!
Seafood Platter
It is always
interesting visiting a town’s local pub and the Paternoster
local exudes character – patrons
and past history alike! A couple
of drinks later we headed to dinner
at
a nearby restaurant located on the
beach. Being so close to the sea
we were tempted to order the seafood
platter and were not disappointed.
The next morning
we were up at a respectable hour
for a walk along
the beach. Thankfully we had built
up an appetite, for what greeted
us upon our return can only be described
as a marathon breakfast! Freshly
baked
bread, crepes, fruit, eggs,bacon,
mushrooms, juice, coffee, preserves – the
list continues.
I walked for miles...
After a sumptuous breakfast
we visited the Paternoster Shop and the Fish Market
before heading back to Cape Town via Darling and Tannie
Evita - there is no better place to enjoy coffee and
traditional melk tert!
