I have just received a call from Steve, a local tourist guide from Cape Town, with a passion for wine. Forty minutes later, we both agree to phone around and see if we can source some Cabernet grapes and make wine together. Crazy? Absolutely!
Now, if Steve were to pass me on the road, I would not know it. Truth is I have never met him, but I am happy to venture into the Deep South of the peninsula to taste his maiden 2010 Shiraz, sample his 2011 Shiraz and assist with a Cabernet fermentation.
So Steve, things to think about over the next 48 hours: where to get your grapes from; which yeast you will use and why; what style of wine do you intend making?
